Signs of the Times (Part 6)

John 9:1-12

The book of John = "Nothing compares to the Glory of the Lord". The whole of John’s gospel is about declaring the glory of the Lord Jesus. Within the gospel there are seven signs all pointing to some aspect of the glory of God.

Let’s have a look at some of what we have discovered so far.

So what’s so important about this sign?

1. Miracles start with seeing.

Verse 1 "He saw a man who was blind from birth".

He did not hear about him, but he saw him.

Proverbs 29:18 "without vision the people perish".

Seeing always precludes the miracle. Unless we see the need for a miracle then we won’t get one. Unless we get put into a situation were we need a miracle then we won’t get one.

There are different types of seeing However we see is how we live. How we see is how we act.

2. He still uses clay.

Verse 6 "When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay."

When God created man He used clay to form him. God still works the same way. He is the same yesterday today and forever - Hebrews13:8. He doesn’t change the boundary lines or the rules of the game. He still works miracles. He still wants to invade the world with His presence.

He still moulds us, just like Adam in the garden. He is still interrupting our lives through the power of Jesus Christ.

God uses those things were we are. He uses the dirt the mud the place where we are to make the miracle. He takes were we are and makes an amazing miracle. No matter what situation you find yourself in, God can and will use it to produce the miracle you need. The very things you hate about your surroundings are the very things God may use to bring the change that is so desperately needed. Don’t give up. Don’t just run from the frustration of the dust or dirt surrounding your life. Ask God to use it for His glory to bring about that miracle.

3. Miracles are meant to be shared.

Verse 7 "And he said to him. "Go wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated "sent"). So he went and washed, and came back seeing."

Why the pool of Siloam? Why send to a place that is called sent. God doesn’t just want you to experience a private miracle. The majority of miracles are for sharing. He sends us to the entire world to share the good news. That is not just the gospel but it’s also how the gospel impacted our lives. Our miracles are personal. Our salvation is personal. But God sends us to share about them to the world.

When we share something personal people sit up and listen. People love people stories. People stories carry revelation. Revelation is what brings change.

Sharing can take place in a majority of situations. The church pulpit can only fit so many people in so obviously God wants us to share our miracles when we go from church with others we meet on our daily walk.

4. Miracles cause curiosity.

Verse 12 "Then they said to him, 'Where is he?' He said, I do not know."

When we share what has happened in our lives people ask questions. They become curious. They get interested in what is happening. Miracles breed an atmosphere of curiosity.

When people become curious it becomes easier to share the good news of Jesus.

Miracles are a part of our lives. They happen daily. Let’s remember to share them. As you share them your miracle may just be the spark of a revival in the unsaved.

Miracles need to be seen. Miracles need to be heard. 2005 the year of the miracle. 2005 the year of my miracle.
